Project Team

Lighting the Mahabodhi is an initiative of Siddhartha’s Intent India, with strong and active support from Vana Foundation and Khyentse Foundation.

As a first step, SI India and Vana Foundation thoroughly studied the opportunities and challenges facing the Temple complex, undertook the first ever survey of the complex, and determined that major lighting improvements are the most urgent necessity.

In 2017 the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) and the Gaya District Magistrate warmly welcomed a proposal that outlined the objectives, scope, and process of this initiative and in early 2018 issued a written confirmation and approval for SI India to proceed.

SI India and Vana have now assembled a first-rate construction team for the initiative that includes lighting designers, architects, electrical consultants, technical consultants, and finance personnel and is now finalizing contractors and lighting vendors to execute the lighting installation.

B-Lit, the renowned architectural lighting designers from Bangkok have finalised the design of the lighting installations.

SI India has empowered an executive committee, consisting of representatives from all the various core organisations. The executive committee shall oversee project management, fund-raising, finances, timelines and liasion with BTMC.
